About
Clara Rojas is a Colombian lawyer, academic, and campaign manager for former senator and presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt. In February of 2002, she and Betancourt were kidnapped by the FARC guerrilla group and taken hostage for six years.
In 2002 alone, 3,000 people were reported kidnapped by the FARC; some have been in captivity for over twelve years. The government has failed to address this crisis. Rojas has been free for two years together with her son Emmanuel, who she gave birth to while in captivity. She explains how she lives without resentment, pain, bitterness, or hatred for her attackers. During her captivity, she felt a deep sorrow for her country, because most of the militants she encountered were illiterate youth involved in needless conflict. She pleads for the international community to raise a unified voice and call for the release of all those held captive by the FARC.
